Roberto Martinez delivers key update on Romelu Lukaku's injury

27 June 2018 - 22:50

Belgium head coach Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Romelu Lukaku is highly unlikely to be risked for the England game after sustaining an ankle problem versus Tunisia.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Spurs, Gilchrist starts
  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs

  • The 25-year-old has been the Red Devils' star performer alongside Eden Hazard during the group phase of the World Cup and he is already on four goals for the tournament after braces in victories over Tunisia and Panama.

Despite this, his inclusion for the Three Lions game appears unlikely with Martinez confirming the marksman may only recover in time for the round of 16 stage of the World Cup.

Both teams are expected to make notable changes to the squad as they seek to rest their players and there is still plenty of stake in the game with the opportuntiy to come first in the group.

England and Belgium are presently tied on both points and goal difference in Group G but the former are leading the standings at present owing to the better disciplinary record.
