Former England midfielder, Danny Murphy has reacted to England's penalty shootout win over Colombia at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Russia, saying that it was a well deserved victory.

  • England were close to winning the game in normal time after Harry Kane scored from the penalty spot in the 57th minute, but Yerry Mina temporarily broke the hearts of the English in the 93rd minute with a thumping header into the net.

No goals were scored in extra time, and when it came to penalties, the English made sure they won their first ever penalty shootout at the World Cup by four goals to three.

Speaking to the BBC, Murphy said: "It was deserved, make no mistake, it was deserved. Well done every one of them. We will learn a lot from that game."

England will face Sweden in the quarter-final after the Swedes defeated Switzerland by one goal to nothing earlier on Tuesday.

Having avoided the likes of Brazil, France, and Uruguay in the quarter-final, England can now dream of reaching the semi-final with the Swedes looking like a very beatable opponent after their display against the Swiss.
