Harry Kane: We gave everything against Belgium

Harry Kane: We gave everything against Belgium

14 July 2018 - 17:28

England captain Harry Kane has said that he can't blame his teammates for the loss to Belgium in the World Cup third place play-off because Roberto Martinez's team were better.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • The Three Lions failed to finish the tournament on a high, losing 2-0 courtesy of goals from Thomas Meunier and Eden Hazard.

Speaking on ITV, the Tottenham Hotspur attacker said: "The lads couldn't have given any more. Belgium are obviously a good team. I can't fault the lads, we gave everything."

Kane still has the chance of smiling once more as he is likely to win the Golden Boot because he is currently with six goals, more than any player in the tournament at the moment.

Despite the loss, it has been a great tournament for England and they are the second surprise performers behind Croatia who play France in the final.

There is a lot of hope for England going forward. This tournament will give them the belief to go after future tournaments with hope.

All the country has to do now to increase their chances of success is to develop quality players that play regularly at the highest level of club football. This is what has helped the Belgians, and the previous winners of the tournament.
