Townsend rejects talk of Newcastle return

05 August 2018 - 14:27

Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend has moved quickly to reject talk of a departure from Selhurst Park this summer. Former club Newcastle United were amongst the teams interested in the player.

  • Confirmed Man Utd line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Amad starts
  • Liam Rosenior confirms groin injury for Chelsea star
  • According to multiple reports, Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez had opened the door for a return for Townsend, suggesting that a transfer could be on the cards worth a reported £25 million.

However, Townsend is seemingly very happy with Palace and has told reporters that he will be staying put for the time being.

“I have got three years left on my contract. The club want me here, the fans want me here, I want to be here, so for me there is nothing to it," said Townsend.

“There is always gossip surrounding myself every summer but I don’t really pay much attention to it.

“I’m happy here and hopefully I can be here for many years.”

On the other hand, Wilfried Zaha looks set to depart Crystal Palace this summer, with a move to Chelsea looking increasingly likely.
