Chelsea have reportedly identified Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland as the prime target to replace Thibaut Courtois before Thursday's transfer deadline.
Courtois has shown a keen desire to join Real Madrid this summer but so far, the Blues have resisted the approach from the European champions with no replacement in hand.
However, according to Sky Sports News, there could yet be a late twist to the story with the Blues planning to sign Jack Butland to replace the Belgium international.
Stoke City boss Gary Rowett has previously indicated that the Potters won't entertain bids during the dying stages of the transfer window but a big-money approach could change their stance before the transfer deadline.
Chelsea have experienced a very quiet transfer window and so far, they have managed to pursue just one major signing in the form of Jorginho from Napoli.
Blues Maurizio Sarri has recently indicated that the club may recruit a new midfielder before the deadline but the club's transfer strategy may change with Courtois wanting his way out.
