Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that David de Gea is on the brink of extending his contract with the club beyond June 2019.
The Spain international has been regularly linked with Real Madrid over the years but that no longer remains a possibility with the European champions opting to sign Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea instead.
Since then, there has been plenty of reports suggesting that the goalkeeper could be close to signing a new United contract and Mourinho has now confirmed that it should be the case.
"David is a Manchester United player, he will sign a new contract as soon as possible, he likes it here. We love him, we want him to stay. He wants to stay," he said via The Mirror.
De Gea has been named United's Player of the Year in four of the previous five campaigns and last season, in particular, was special to him as he went on to secure his maiden Premier League Golden Glove award.
