Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has said that he wants to emulate Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand by incorporating his style during his playing days, Manchester Evening News reports.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • The England defender also made it known that he wants to emulate former Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher alongside the former Leeds United player.

"That’s the aim (to emulate Ferdinand and Jamie Carragher). I’ve got a long way to go to reach their level but I’d like to incorporate every aspect of what they do," Joe Gomez said, M.E.N. reports.

During their playing days, Ferdinand and Carragher were great for both Manchester United and Liverpool respectively, featuring regularly for the clubs during their prime.

The 21-year-old has appeared in all Liverpool's opening Premier League fixtures this season, forging a strong centre-back partnership with Virgil van Dijk.

After being left out of the England World Cup squad, Gomez has been included in the Three Lions' team to face Spain and Switzerland in the upcoming internationals.
