Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has confirmed that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho had made an approach to sign him during the summer transfer window.
In an interview with Bild, Boateng revealed that both Paris Saint-Germain and United had made offers for his signature but ultimately he decided to stay put with the Bavarian giants.
He added that he personally contacted Mourinho to appreciate the interest whilst explaining his ambition of remaining with the reigning German champions.
"I called Jose Mourinho, I told him that his interest was an honor for me and thanked him for trying so hard for me. I explained to Jose that it’s difficult to leave Bayern, and if I do, everything has to be in place to top this club," he said.
Boateng has been with Bayern for the past seven seasons and during this period, he has racked over 250 appearances despite his frequent injury concerns.
Since the start of the season, Boateng has featured for Bayern on three occasions and he has also represented Germany in both the internationals during the break.
