Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno has said that he is relishing the opportunity to take the 'big chance' to become the number one shot-stopper at the club.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • The German had been playing the deputy role in the Premier League since the season started but he made his debut against the Hornets after Petr Cech sustained a hamstring injury during the first period.

Leno thereafter went on to enjoy a solid debut which included a brilliant finger save to deny Hornets skipper Troy Deeney and he has now talked up the big chance up for offer.

"Yes, of course. Now Petr is injured – I don’t know how long for – I have the opportunity to play more games and show the coach my quality. It is a big chance for me," he is quoted as saying by Metro.

Leno has featured in both the opening games for Arsenal in the League Cup and Europa League this term but he could be benched for the upcoming European clash versus Qarabag on the road.

Emiliano Martinez could deputise between the sticks with Leno's services required for the Premier League now that Cech is sidelined for at least three weeks with a hamstring issue.
