Reiss Nelson makes surprise claim about when he could return to Arsenal from Hoffenheim loan

Arsenal youngster Reiss Nelson has hinted that he could return to the Emirates early from his Hoffenheim loan spell.

  • Fresh from signing a new long-term contract with the Gunners at the end of August, the 18-year-old headed to the Bundesliga on a season-long loan deal.

A scorer on his debut for the club in the late 2-1 defeat against Fortuna Dusseldorf back in September, the winger added to his tally at the weekend with a goal in the home loss against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Nelson once again found the net on Thursday night as he marked his England U21 debut with a goal in the 7-0 victory over Andorra.

Speaking after the comprehensive victory in Chesterfield, the talented youngster suggested that he could well return early from Germany to try and make an impression under Unai Emery.

"Arsenal is my boyhood club, they’re a big part of my life,".

"At the end of the day I’m at an age where I want to play football and Hoffenheim is where that [chance] was.

"I had to get up and be strong, be independent and take my chance in Germany.

"I’m just here to play my football in Germany”.

"Hopefully I’ll come back in a couple of months – if it’s a year so be it – ready to play in Arsenal’s first team."

With good friend Jadon Sancho making a name for himself in Germany with Borussia Dortmund, Nelson will be hoping to follow in the winger's footsteps by earning a call-up to Gareth Southgate's England squad in the future.
