Manchester United to return for Atletico Madrid star?

16 November 2018 - 12:01

Manchester United could reportedly make a fresh attempt to pursue Diego Godin from Atletico Madrid when the transfer reopens in January.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • The Uruguay international was widely fancied to join United before the summer transfer deadline but he made the surprise U-turn to stay put with the Europa League champions.

Godin has since continued to remain a constant figure for Atleti at the heart of the defence but with his contract expiring in eight months' time, his future remains under discussion.

According to The Mirror, United are prepared to make a fresh approach for the Uruguayan in the New Year with Jose Mourinho keen on strengthening the central defensive position.

Over the past few months, Godin has been deemed to be in advanced discussions with Atleti regarding a new contract but it appears that United are ready to try again this winter to sign the experienced South American.

Godin, who has made over 350 appearances for Atletico Madrid across all competitions, could be available for a fee in the region of £20m during the winter transfer window.
