Liverpool make transfer decision on Simon Mignolet

Mignolet to stay put for the season

Liverpool make transfer decision on Simon Mignolet

22 November 2018 - 09:55

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet will reportedly stay put with the club for the rest of the season despite the widespread interest from European sides.

  • Arsenal & Chelsea want to sign ex-Forest midfielder
  • Chelsea set for massive double injury boost vs Liverpool
  • Mignolet lost his number one role to Loris Karius at the start of 2018 and he thereafter became the third-choice with Alisson Becker joining the Reds in the summer.

Owing to this, there was strong speculation of Mignolet parting ways with the Reds before the summer transfer deadline but in a surprise change of events, it was Karius who was permitted to join Besiktas in a two-year loan deal.

Mignolet has since targeted the club's hierarchy for the decision made but according to The Liverpool Echo, manager Jurgen Klopp has no plans of offloading him midway through the current season.

Alisson has been the club's undisputed first-choice since the start of the season but Klopp is said to have concerns regarding the back-up options with rookies Caoimhin Kelleher and Kamil Grabara next in line, should Mignolet leave Anfield.

Mignolet has made a single appearance for Liverpool this campaign and that came during the League Cup third round defeat to Chelsea in front of the home supporters.
