Fulham put Everton to the sword

Fulham put Everton to the sword

16 March 2008 - 21:43

Fulham boosted their survival hopes as a Brian McBride goal gave them a 1-0 victory over Champions League qualification chasing Everton at Craven Cottage on Sunday. Fulham boss Roy Hodgson now believes eight big results could save their season.

  • Chelsea defender on his way to Leeds United?
  • Chelsea ready to hand Nicolas Jackson fresh chance
  • McBride notched the decider in the 67th minute when he met a cross from Simon Davies to head past Tim Howard.

Everton's best chance was wasted by striker Aiyegbeni Yakubu three minutes before the break when his shot was well saved by Kasey Keller.

Moments after McBride's breakthrough, which capped a high-tempo spell from Fulham shortly after the break, Everton squandered a golden opportunity to make amends, Arteta's corner finding Joseph Yobo on the edge of the six-yard box only for the defender to head wide.

Fulham now have 23 points, but know they are some way off of reaching the magic number '40'.
