Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante has come in the defence of teammate Jorginho ahead of the weekend's League Cup final against Manchester City.
The Italy international joined the Blues from Napoli in the summer of 2017 and he has since slotted into the holding midfield position ahead of Kante, who has featured in an advanced central role.
This has, however, ignited plenty of criticism from the club's faithful with the Italian lacking the physicality and tackling attributes for the role, and there have been calls for Kante to be reinstated in his preferred spot.
Speaking to The Sun, Kante has now backed Jorginho for the defensive midfield position and stated that the Italian is more fond to the philosophy of manager Maurizio Sarri after playing under him at Napoli.
"Jorginho came this season and is doing very well," he told The Sun. "He knows very well the philosophy of the manager. He is very important for us at the club."
Jorginho has been regularly noted as a keen passer of the ball but he has surprisingly failed to register a single assist for the Blues during the course of the current campaign.
