Unai Emery responds to Alex Iwobi, Stephan Lichtsteiner injury concerns

24 February 2019 - 21:05

Arsenal manage Unai Emery has said that he is hopeful regarding the recoveries of Alex Iwobi and Stephan Lichtsteiner ahead of the midweek Premier League clash against Bournemouth.

  • Predicted Arsenal line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Man Utd, Saka starts
  • Arsenal looking at Brighton ace to replace 25yo star

  • Lichtsteiner was substituted at the midway stage of the Southampton game with a back problem while Alex Iwobi was brought off towards the end after picking up a knock.

Speaking after the match, Emery suggested that both Iwobi and Lichtsteiner may have only suffered minor niggles and they should return ahead of the midweek encounter against the Cherries.

"I hope it’s only one knock and not a more important injury. I hope he can play Wednesday. Lichtsteiner has back pain but I think he can also be okay for Wednesday.” he said via BBC Sport.

Meanwhile, Ainsley Maitland-Niles missed the 2-0 win over the Saints through an illness but Emery has confirmed that the youngster should return to the mix for the forthcoming clash at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal returned to the fourth position in the standings with their victory over Southampton on Sunday after Manchester United dropped points in a goalless draw against Liverpool.
