Chelsea plan contract discussions with experienced goalkeeper

02 March 2019 - 19:26

Chelsea have reportedly began discussions over a new contract with goalkeeper Willy Caballero after the professionalism shown by the Argentine over the past week.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Arsenal handed huge boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

  • The 37-year-old has largely played the deputy role with the Blues and he has managed just 21 appearances since joining them on a free transfer from Manchester City in 2017.

However, one of those came during the recent Premier League win against Tottenham Hotspur after Kepa Arrizabalaga was dropped due to his refusal to be substituted in the League Cup final.

According to The Telegraph, the Blues have been impressed with the veteran's professionalism during the unforeseen incident and they are now prepared to reward him with another year's extension.

Blues boss Maurizio Sarri has recently suggested that Kepa remains the club's first-choice keeper but it remains to be seen whether the Spaniard will get the nod for the south-west London derby against Fulham tomorrow.

Chelsea are currently sixth in the league standings, but they have their top-four destiny in their own hands with five points separating them from fourth-placed Manchester United, who have played two games more.
