Chelsea could sign Arsenal flop, should Maurizio Sarri remain at the helm

Chelsea are reportedly said to have an eye on signing Barcelona's Denis Suarez, who recently had a forgettable loan stint with Premier League side Arsenal.

  • The Spain international joined the Gunners on a short-term loan from the Blaugrana in January with the obligation to buy for around £18m in the summer.

However, he could not adjust to the demands of head coach Unai Emery and he managed just six substitute appearances before he was sent back to the Blaugrana with a season-ending groin injury.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Blues boss Maurizio Sarri remains a huge admirer of the versatile midfielder and he had sought to sign him during his time at Napoli.

The same publication claims that the Italian may seek to pursue Suarez at the end of the season, should he continue to remain at the helm of things at Chelsea.

Suarez penned a one-year extension with the Blaugrana prior to his Arsenal switch last winter, but the move is said to have been done to maintain his transfer value.

Chelsea are currently not permitted to make any signings over the age of 18 but they are expected to appeal their two-window transfer ban to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
