Dumfries on United radar

Manchester United looking into deal for Dutch right-back

16 June 2019 - 15:31

PSV Eindhoven defender Denzel Dumfries has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Manchester United as they aim to strengthen the right-back position.

  • Man Utd handed injury boost ahead of Burnley game

  • The Mancunian giants are planning a summer rebuild following a disappointing 2019/2020 season where they managed only a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League.

Amidst this, they have been linked with the likes of Thomas Meunier and Aaron Wan-Bissaka to strengthen the right-back spot but both of them are not said to come on the cheap.

According to The Sun, the Red Devils are now understood to have shifted their attention towards recruiting Dumfries, who is currently in the ranks of PSV Eindhoven.

The right-sided defender has already become a regular for club and country over the past year and reports indicate that a fee of around £25m could be sufficient to prise him away from the Dutch heavyweights.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be reluctant to spend over the odds on players this summer and the focus is likely to lie on pursuing younger recruits with the quality to meet the club's standards.
