Liverpool offer new long-term contract to 24-year-old striker

Liverpool have reportedly offered a new long-term deal to striker Divock Origi following his impressive showing during the backend of the previous campaign.

The Belgium international had been on the fringes of the first-team last term but he became an important figure in the closing stages of the season with crucial goals against Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur in Europe.

As such, manager Jurgen Klopp has been eager to discuss an extension for the 24-year-old and The Star claims that the Reds have proposed a new long-term deal with a significant payrise.

It is added that the former Lille graduate has yet to give the green light to the proposal, considering he wants assurances of regular gametime during the forthcoming campaign.

Origi has largely played second fiddle to Roberto Firmino for the centre-forward role at Anfield and reports suggest that he may assess his situation during the first half of next season before deciding on his future.

Origi has 12 months remaining on his existing Liverpool deal.
