Alderweireld: set for Spurs exit?

Toby Alderweireld set for AS Roma move?

11 July 2019 - 05:04

Italian giants Roma are ready to move for Tottenham's wantaway defender Toby Alderweireld this summer, in a transfer deal that could recoup up to £25 million for Spurs for the Belgian international centre-back. Alderweireld has so far refused to sign a contract extension at White Hart Lane, apparently as his agent negotiates a move away from the club for his client.

  • Alderweireld could be joining AS Roma as a replacement for Kostas Manolas, who departed the club just last week. Alderweireld has been a mainstay of Spurs' defence for the past four seasons, but will be moving on to Serie A at some point this summer.

With just 12 months remaining on his deal at Spurs, the club are ready to capitalise on the player's situation and transfer him elsewhere.

Daniel Levy, the Tottenham chairman, is not a fan of letting a player run his contract down and has informed the defender that he will be allowed to leave this summer, as opposed to next January or the summer after.

Roma are ready to pay the defender a reported 200,000 euros per week to move to Italy.
