Tottenham Hotspur to hijack Arsenal's move for Philippe Coutinho?

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking to beat north London rivals Arsenal in the race to sign Philippe Coutinho on a season-long loan from Barcelona.

  • A recent report from L'Equipe cited that the Gunners are in advanced negotiations with the Blaugrana for the playmaker and he is due to make the move to the Emirates on a temporary basis for the season.

However, according to The Times, that does not seem the case and it is claimed that Spurs hold the advantage over the Gunners with Coutinho previously working under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino at Espanyol.

The Spanish champions are said to demand a fee in the region of £21m for Coutinho and his potential arrival at Spurs could see them part ways with contract rebel Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen has less than a year remaining on his contract with Spurs and he could supposedly make the switch to Premier League rivals Manchester United before Thursday's transfer deadline.
