Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has said that the club are assessing the fitness of midfielder N'Golo Kante in the lead up to the European Super Cup clash against Liverpool.
The France international missed most of the pre-season campaign with a knee injury but he managed to make a cameo appearance during the Blues' 4-0 league defeat at the hands of Manchester United.
It was initially expected that Kante would make the starting lineup for the Super Cup clash, but Lampard has now presented doubts over the midfielder's inclusion itself after he picked up a fresh injury at Old Trafford.
"I’m very aware of how important he is for us. He picked up a small injury in that game so we are assessing that for tomorrow. I will speak to him today and make a decision on that with him," he was quoted as saying by Goal.com.
Lampard has been wary of playing Kante with the view to the long season ahead and he is unlikely to gamble with the fitness of the Frenchman ahead of the forthcoming clash against Jurgen Klopp's side.
On the other hand, recently injured duo Antonio Rudiger and Willian has made the travelling squad for the game in Istanbul and there are indications that they could at least make the bench.
