Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that the players were not clinical enough in the final third as they suffered a shock 2-1 league defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

  • The Red Devils were the dominant side throughout the contest with more than 70 percent of the possession but they managed just three attempts on target similarly to Crystal Palace.

Speaking after the loss, Solskjaer rued the recent streak of missed penalties and said that things could have been different, had Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba converted their spotkicks against Palace and Wolves respectively.

He added that the team did not have the cutting edge when it came to the attacking scheme of things and that combined with an average defensive display contributed to the surprise defeat.

"Two games, two missed penalties. If you score them, it's a different scenario. We just weren't clinical enough. They scored two very easy goals. We created enough to win the game. But we didn't defend well enough," heĀ  told Sky Sports.

Jordan Ayew and Patrick van Aanholt were the goalscorers for Palace while Daniel James bagged the consolation strike for the Red Devils. The victory was the Eagles' first against United since 1991.
