Jadon Sancho likely to leave Borussia Dortmund

Jadon Sancho likely to leave Borussia Dortmund

01 October 2019 - 07:22

England international Jadon Sancho has been taking the Bundesliga by storm since arriving at Borussia Dortmund, leaving many to question whether or not the winger will eventually return back to the Premier League. A number of clubs have been linked with Sancho, but have yet to have tabled an official offer for the talented player.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Man Utd have been continuously linked with a move for the player.

Borussia Dortmund have been blessed with the signing of Sancho since his arrival at the club from Manchester City, with Sancho having scored 16 goals in 51 games since his arrival at the Westfalenstadion. Since his move, the forward has also made a number of assists and other contributions to the club's attacking play, seeing the club now mentioned as a potential candidate to win the league title this season.

Despite coming through the ranks at Man City, in 2017 Sancho opted to make the move to Germany and has since gone on to represent England's full national team, scoring 2 goals and winning 8 caps for his country. The 19-year-old has also put pen to paper on a new contract at the club, reward for his excellent form.

However, with a number of teams linked with the player such as Barcelona, Man Utd, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, the player's long term future in Germany remains uncertain. So much so that recently Borussia Dortmund's chairman has commented on the speculation, insisting that the club will do everything that they can to keep hold of Sancho, but is very likely one day the player will opt to leave.

In a conversation with German publication Kicker, Borussia Dortmund chairman Michael Zorc commented on Sancho: "No decision has been made. But you don’t have to be a prophet to know he won’t play here for another five years.

"But he knows full well his positive development at Borussia Dortmund and I doubt that would be possible with top English clubs.

"We trust the players very early and are not afraid to let them play.”

Will Sancho opt to stay in Germany, or will he follow his dream and move back to England and play in the Premier League? According to bookies such as ComeOnCasino, Sancho looks likely to move on very soon.

With suggestions that Sancho is already valued beyond £100 million, Sancho is sure to be one of the world's most in-demand young footballers for the best part of a decade and many top clubs will all be vying for his signature.

Zorc also heaped praise on Sancho, telling Kicker: "He does not sit back satisfied. He wants to play football successfully and beautifully. That alone is his motivation.”

It is understood that Man City still retain a whopping 15 percent of the sell on clause in Sancho's contract, and Dortmund's efforts to buy out that portion from the transfer contract have so far failed. Dortmund originally paid £10 million to sign Sancho, a sale that current Man City manager Pep Guardiola will surely regret, having seen the performances of the player in recent months.
