Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has acknowledged that the club have suffered a blow with Jorginho suspended for next weekend's Premier League clash against Crystal Palace.

  • The Italy international has been one of the many standout performers under Lampard this season and over the weekend, he provided a splendid defence splitting pass for Tammy Abraham's opening goal against Watford.

However, he ended the game on a disappointing note by picking up a booking and that has triggered a one-match league suspension for bagging his fifth yellow card of the campaign.

Speaking after the game, Lampard was clearly disappointed with the outcome and talked up the impressive partnership Jorginho has formed with Mateo Kovacic this term.

“Really pleased, I enjoyed watching the way they played [Kovacic and Jorginho]. It is a blow to lose him. He has played a lot of games and it is time to use the squad,” he told BBC Sport.

In the absence of Jorginho, one of N'Golo Kante or Ross Barkley could feature in the Premier League clash against Crystal Palace prior to the third international break of the season.

Before that, the Blues have an important Champions League meeting against Ajax at home and Jorginho is expected to feature in that game, given the suspension does not affect his involvement in other competitions.
