Manchester United to battle Chelsea for German forward?

01 January 2020 - 19:18

Manchester United are reportedly set to compete with the likes of Chelsea in the race to sign RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner this month.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • The German has amassed 21 goals in the Bundesliga and Champions League this term and his performances have caught the eye of numerous elite sides.

Of late, there has been the speculation that the Blues could trigger a release clause present in the deal of the forward but ESPN claims that United are now looking at a similar possibility.

United were keen on swooping for the services of Erling Haaland initially but the Norwegian decided to snub their advances to join Borussia Dortmund.

As a result, Werner has been earmarked as the next forward target on their radar but it remains to be seen whether Leipzig will be compelled to sanction his sale.

There has been no official confirmation over the release clause by Leipzig while various reports have indicated that the value could range between £25m and £52m.
