Arsenal say no to Lemar?

Arsenal make Thomas Lemar transfer decision

08 January 2020 - 19:32

Arsenal have reportedly bowed out of the race to sign Thomas Lemar from Atletico Madrid thereby putting Tottenham Hotspur in pole position.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • The Gunners came on the cusp of landing Lemar from Monaco in the summer of 2017 but the Principality eventually turned down the approach as they had insufficient time to land a replacement.

Lemar has since made the move to Atletico in the Spanish La Liga and his time with the club has been hugely frustrating with just three goals scored from 64 appearances.

According to Sky Sports News, the Gunners have the opportunity to land the France international this month but they are likely to ignore the option as manager Mikel Arteta is content with the attacking options at hand.

Furthermore, this has provided the advantage for Spurs in the player's pursuit and they could land the winger for a £5m loan fee with the option to buy for £51m this summer.

Spurs are currently short of options in their attack with Heung-min Son suspended while Harry Kane is out for a lengthy period of time after a fresh hamstring problem.
