Denmark international Christian Eriksen has confirmed that he had held discussions with Manchester United for a while before making the move to Inter Milan from Tottenham Hotspur.

  • Atletico Madrid planning shock move for Chelsea star

  • Eriksen was widely tipped to leave Spurs during the summer transfer window and it emerged that the Red Devils could swoop for his services before the transfer deadline.

However, that was not meant to be and the former Ajax graduate had to wait until the turn of the year to make the switch to the Nerazzurri on a cut-price deal.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Eriksen has now revealed that United were in the running to sign him but he preferred to pursue a fresh challenge away from the Premier League.

"We did speak to them of course and we did hear what was possible and what wasn't possible. But, in the end, me personally, I wanted a new challenge. To stay in the Premier League would have been an easy solution," he told.

United were eyeing a new creative midfielder in their ranks and they eventually landed the signature of Bruno Fernandes from Sporting before the winter transfer deadline.
