Tottenham Hotspur make opening bid for 21-goal striker

Tottenham Hotspur are understood to have made a formal bid for Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal

  • The Kosovo international has been in good form for the Super Lig outfit this term and he has netted 21 goals across all competitions.

Spurs had failed with an unsuccessful approach for Muriqi in January but it appears that they have revived their interest with a transfer offer.

According to Fanatik, the north London side are keen to beat their rivals to the player's signature and they have made an official bid worth £22m.

Spurs have suffered in the backend of the current campaign with the lack of a quality back-up for Harry Kane, who has been out injured with a hamstring problem.

The England international should return to action when the season resumes after the coronavirus shutdown but manager Jose Mourinho is keen to find a solid option, who can be trusted to lead the line when Kane is unavailable.

Manchester United have previously been credited with an interest in Muriqi but they may not follow up their interest following the success of Odion Ighalo since his loan move from Shanghai Shenhua in January.

The Nigeria international is eager to remain with United on a permanent deal and reports claim that Shenhua would demand around £15m for his sale.
