Everton are likely to miss out on the signing of James Rodriguez with Juventus said to be in advanced negotiations with Real Madrid for the playmaker.
The Colombian has been fancied to leave Los Blancos during the next transfer window and he has recently been linked with a reunion with Toffees boss Ancelotti, who has previously managed him at Napoli and Bayern Munich.
However, according to Marca, the Bianconeri are firmly in the driving seat to sign the Colombian and they are willing to meet Los Blancos' £35m price tag for his services.
Rodriguez has struggled with multiple injuries over the past two years and in the current campaign, he has scored just one goal from 13 appearances for Los Blancos.
Should the Bianconeri land his signature, the Toffees may have to look elsewhere in the search for a new attacking midfielder to replace Gylfi Sigurdsson, who has looked out of sorts this season.
The Iceland international has bagged just two goals from 29 appearances in all competitions and he has been tipped to head through the exit door as part of the summer rebuild.
