Manchester United end their search for a sporting director

Manchester United have reportedly ended their pursuit of a sporting director after being convinced by the transfer strategies of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

  • The Red Devils have been on the search for a director of football over the past couple of years in order to improve their prospects of landing their main transfer targets.

However, it appears that the plan has now been shelved with the hierarchy impressed with the decisions made by Solskjaer alongside executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

The Norwegian has made five signings in Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo (on loan) for the current season and each of those players have impressed.

As a result, the club prefer a direct line of contact between Solskjaer and Woodward instead of recruiting a sporting director, who would act as an intermediary between the two.

Solskjaer is reportedly keen on signing the likes of Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho this summer. It is unclear whether the board will back him with the funds amid the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
