Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is understood to have personally intervened in the contract talks with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in order to convince him to stay put at the club.
The Gabon international has only 13 months remaining on his existing deal with the north London side and reports have emerged that he could be sold at the end of the season, suppose a new contract is not agreed.
A recent report from ESPN indicated that there have been no discussions between the player and the club over a possible renewal but The Telegraph claims that talks have been undergoing behind the scenes.
It is added that Arteta has personally intervened into the negotiations by holding talks with Aubameyang and his father and there is the optimism that the striker will commit his long-term future to the club.
Aubameyang has bagged 61 goals from 97 outings for the Gunners to date. He is their leading scorer this term with 20 goals from 31 outings, with 17 of those coming in the Premier League.
