Newcastle United have reportedly earmarked Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso as a potential target for the next transfer window.
The Magpies are presently in the bottom half of the league standings but they could undergo a major transition next term with the anticipated takeover from a Saudi-based consortium.
The Tyneside outfit have already been linked with several high-profile players and The Mirror claims that they have recently expressed an interest in securing the services of Alonso.
Frank Lampard's side are lining up a move for Ben Chilwell from Leicester City and his potential arrival could see either Alonso or Emerson head through the exit door.
It is more likely that Emerson will leave the club ahead of Alonso but reports claim that the Magpies could still make a bid of around £26m to land the latter's signature.
Newcastle will resume their league campaign with a home game against Sheffield United this weekend. They are currently eight points ahead of the relegation places.
