Arsenal confirm fresh injury blow for attacker

26 June 2020 - 21:33

Arsenal have confirmed a fresh injury blow with Gabriel Martinelli ruled out for the rest of the season.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • The Brazilian made the move to the Gunners from Ituano last summer and he has since caught the eye with a number of top-notch displays.

Martinelli has bagged 10 goals and two assists in his debut season, but he is unlikely to add to his tally following the injury setback.

Earlier last week, Martinelli sustained a knee ligament injury in training and it has now been confirmed that he has undergone a surgery which will keep him sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.

Aside from him, Pablo Mari and Calum Chambers are ruled out for the rest of the season. The former picked up an ankle ligament injury earlier this month.

Elsewhere, goalkeeper Bernd Leno has avoided a serious knee problem, but he is still expected to be sidelined for around four weeks with a moderate ligament sprain.

Arsenal will be in FA Cup quarter-final action against Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon. They are aiming to reach the semi-final of the competition for the first time since 2017.
