Havertz to Chelsea?

Chelsea receive boost in signing Kai Havertz

28 June 2020 - 21:45

Chelsea have received a boost in signing Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen after the German club failed to qualify for the Champions League through their Bundesliga campaign.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • Leverkusen needed Borussia Monchengladbach to lose on the final matchday against Hertha in order to leapfrog them to the fourth position, but that was not the case.

As a result, the club missed out on qualifying for next season's Champions League through their domestic division and they are now dependent on winning the Europa League in order to play in the premier competition next term.

According to Bild, the Blues have been keeping a close eye on Havertz's situation and believe they can pounce on the player's services after Leverkusen's failure to make the top four.

Of course, the German club could go on to lift the Europa League title, but they face a tough challenge on their hands with the competition from the likes of Inter and Manchester United.

Frank Lampard's side are currently in a good position to secure a Champions League berth as they lie two points ahead of fifth-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers with one game in hand.

They have already secured the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner from Ajax and RB Leipzig respectively and reports claim that a fee of around £70m could be sufficient to lure Havertz to the club.
