Heskey recalled for England

Heskey recalled for England

02 September 2007 - 16:58

Emile Heskey has been given a shock recall to the full England squad. The Wigan striker won the last of his 43 caps against France during Euro 2004 and many said his international career was over. However, injuries to several key strikers has meant a recall for the Wigan striker.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • Steve McLaren was said to be very impressed with Heskey during Wigan's 1-0 loss to Newcastle.

Funnily enough, the goalscorer in that game, Michael Owen, could be set to re-partner Heskey for England's key games against Russia and Israel for the first time in three years.

The England coach commented, "Emile is a player with a lot of international experience and has played many times with Michael Owen in the past. He has been in good form for Wigan this season. He played very well against Sunderland recently and I saw him play well against Newcastle yesterday."
