French defender Malang Sarr has emerged as a potential target for Arsenal following his departure from Nice at the expiry of his contract.

The 21-year-old is capable of playing in either the central defensive or left-back role and he has caught the eye with his strong distribution skills. 

At his age, he has already managed 100 appearances in the French top-flight and he now appears keen on a fresh challenge in a new league.

Sarr recently left Nice following the expiry of his contract and Marca claims that the Gunners have opened talks to sign him through his representative.

The north London giants face direct competition from RB Leipzig, who are understood to have already placed a contract offer on the table.

The Gunners are set to offload a number of first-team players this summer. In the defensive department, Sokratis seems likely to leave the club in the coming months.

The Greek has less than 12 months remaining on his contract and his reduced gametime since the season restart suggests he is on his way out.
