Manchester United to rival Chelsea for West Ham United star?

Manchester United could reportedly go head-to-head with Chelsea in the race to sign Declan Rice from West Ham United this summer.

  • Chelsea make first move to sign Xabi Alonso
  • Rice has been the standout performer for the Hammers in recent years and he has been touted to leave the club at the end of the current season.

Blues boss Frank Lampard has identified him as a potential candidate to play in his back three, but it appears that the club could face competition for his signature.

According to Football Insider, the Red Devils are also keeping tabs on the player's displays and could make an approach to secure his services.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are currently well stocked with options in the midfield, but it seems that they could consider playing him at the back similar to Chelsea.

The England international has nearly four years remaining on his contract with the east London outfit with the option for a further 12 months.

As such, West Ham are in a strong position to keep hold of him, but reports claim that they could sanction his sale for a fee of around £70m this summer.
