Giroud: set for a move elsewhere?

Giroud warns Chelsea over Werner arrival

30 July 2020 - 12:45

France and Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has warned the club that he will consider his future if he is not guaranteed some amount of first-team football next year. The former Arsenal man is concerned that new arrival Timo Werner is likely to take his place in the club's first team.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • An impressive season for Giroud means that there will likely be no shortage of potential suitors for the World Cup winning striker, but the player is ready to move elsewhere in search of playing time.

Werner offers a different attacking dynamic to Giroud though, and the French striker quipped about the arrival and the Blues' likely new playing style: "When the teams play a defensive way against us, it’s not bad to have a tall striker like me that can make the link.

"But I am not naive. Werner hasn’t been recruited to sit on the bench.

"But I will do everything I can to give headaches to the coach when it comes to making his choice."

Giroud has 12 months remaining on his Chelsea contract.
