If his genes are anything to go by, Andre Ayew is sure to become a footballing legend in his home country, Ghana. The son of African legend Abedi Ayew, it seems the 18 year old can quite easily become one of the best players from the new generation of African footballers.

  • Mauricio Pochettino confirms fresh injury blow for Chelsea star
  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • Ayew is comfortable playing up front or in midfield, and has a brilliant left foot. Andre started his career in the Marseille youth ranks, where he quickly became spotted by the first team coaches.

Ayew was given his chance this season, and has shown he is capable of becoming a mainstay in the Marseille side.

Ayew has a contract until 2010, and is delighted to be finally getting the chance in the Marseille first eleven: "I am grateful to God for giving me the opportunity to play for the first team of this great club, I know this is the result of the hard work I have done since joining the club two years ago. I will not let this opportunity slip past me as I will do everything possible to justify the confidence reposed in my ability."

In November 2007, Ayew made his first full start for Marseille in the Champions League game with Porto. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has also sounded out the possibility of acquiring the Ghanaian international this summer after he was rumoured to be thinking about signing the player in January.

Ayew was a member of Ghana's home representation in the 2008 African Cup of Nations although primarily playing as a substitute.

Ayew displays good pace and is very quick and able and one of his best qualities is his ability to beat the final defender. Ayew does need to work on his shooting and passing; but age is on his side and he is sure to be one for the future.
