Keegan: Owen deal my priority

Kevin Keegan has revealed that he hopes to bring in at least five big name players to Newcastle this summer, but also declared that the biggest signing of his summer would be tying Michael Owen to a new contract.

  • "I think it has shown another side to him that I'm not sure he knew he had," commented Keegan. "It's a crucial role, and Michael wears the armband because he's the main man. He's the one who glues it all together and I don't think there will be any problem about him staying.

"He has totally taken over the dressing room, with a couple of other senior players, and said 'Come on, let's take this club where it should be.' So he'll be our main signing next season regardless of who comes and how much they cost. Michael Owen, tying him down, will be the biggest signing."
