Manchester City to renew John Stones' contract

Manchester City to open contract talks with defender

10 February 2021 - 21:17

Manchester City are prepared to reward John Stones with a new long-term contract on the back of his consistent performances this season.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • The England international was down the pecking order last term and there were suggestions that he could be sold during the summer.

However, he has transformed his career around and has formed a solid partnership with summer signing Ruben Dias in the central defence.

Stones' current deal with the Cityzens expires in 18 months' time and The Times claims that the club will look to reward him with a fresh deal.

The talks over the extension will be put on hold until the summer such that the defender can focus on his duties without any distractions.

Stones has played in 12 of the previous 14 Premier League matches and he has kept 10 clean sheets while conceding only twice.

The 26-year-old has kept Aymeric Laporte out of the starting XI and the Frenchman has hinted that he may push for a summer exit.
