Manchester United defender Wes Brown looks set to end his on/off contract saga next week as he agrees a four year deal with his club. The right-back has been an important member of the first team this year in the absence of Gary Neville.

  • It is understood the two parties have been able to get together and reach a compromise and Brown will sign a new deal.

Michael Carrick is also believed to be close to signing a new deal with his club. Carrick has been a pivotal member of the first team since arriving from Tottenham.

“Talks have been going on for a while now,” said Carrick. “Things have been falling into place for me here and it is nice to know the club reward you for that.”

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said: “It continues our policy of lengthening contracts at the right time and keeps the continuity of the first-team squad going, which we try to do.”
