Guendouzi heading for loan deal

Arsenal midfielder Guendouzi completes exit

03 July 2021 - 20:48

Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi will spend the 2021-22 campaign on loan with French Ligue 1 side Marseille. Guendouzi spent last season on loan at Hertha Berlin and will spend another year away from the Emirates.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • The Gunners have been unhappy with Guendouzi despite the French midfielder having played on a regular basis in the 2019-20 season. According to reports, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was unable to find a suitor for the midfielder this summer with the player's reported £20 million pricetag considered too expensive for a permanent deal.

Marseille have beaten Ligue 1 rivals Rennes, Lyon and Lille in a deal to snap up the defensive midfielder from the Gunners.

Instead, Marseille have opted to sign the midfielder on a loan deal and have the option for a permanent deal next summer.

Guendouzi, 22, played 24 games for Hertha BSC last season, scoring two goals. It is understood the Frenchman is seeking regular first team football and is hopeful that he can still play again for Arsenal in the Premier League. Guendouzi has a contract until 2023 for the North London side.
