Tottenham have made an eleventh hour bid for Rodrigo Bentacur. The defensive midfielder, who remains on the radar of Aston Villa, has caught the eye in Serie A with a number of impressive displays for Juventus.
Having missed out on Adama Traore, Tottenham manager Antonio Conte wants to bring in at least one new face before the January transfer window slams shut on the 31st. Aston Villa had thought they were odds on to secure the signature of Bentacur for around 25 million euros, but Spurs appear to have trumped that offer with a fresh bid of 30 million euros in one lump sum payment.
Spurs are desperate to bring in fresh faces and Conte has hinted that he would consider leaving White Hart Lane should Tottenham fail to commit to the promises made when Conte himself signed on the dotted line last summer.
The 24-year-old Uruguayan defensive midfielder, who played for Boca Juniors before joining Juventus in 2017, has played over 130 times for the Turin side and has 46 caps for his country.
Bentacur is considered one of the brightest defensive prospects in all of Europe and would be a huge coup should Spurs agree a deal.
