Manchester United were monitoring the progress of Darwin Nunez during Benfica's 3-1 Primeira Liga win over Tondela.
The Uruguayan has been in excellent form this campaign, bagging 21 goals from just 26 matches across all competitions.
His form has caught the eye of several European clubs. West Ham United tried to sign him last month, but a deal never materialised.
It is now reported that United have entered the pursuit of the 22-year-old, and watched him in action against Tondela on Monday.
The Red Devils are not actively pursuing another striker, but the situation could change if Cristiano Ronaldo leaves the club.
Ronaldo is frustrated with the club's progress this term, and could push for an exit if they fail to make the Premier League top four.
Nunez was valued at around £40m last summer, but there was limited interest with the striker having undergone a knee surgery.
Benfica have now hiked their valuation for the marksman, and they may not entertain bids less than £60m for his services this summer.
