Manchester United are keen on landing the signature of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer.
The Red Devils are planning a massive rebuild during the off-season. A new defensive midfielder will be one of the priorities.
They have been linked with West Ham United's Declan Rice several times, but the midfielder will cost a hefty fee of around £100m.
On the contrary, Phillips could be prised away for £60m. According to M.E.N, United are making progress towards signing him.
The England star has two years left on his Leeds deal. There has been no progress over a contract extension at the current point.
Phillips has not ruled out staying with the Yorkshire outfit on a potential club-record salary, but he is also open to a bigger challenge.
Leeds will make a final decision during the summer. It is highly likely that they will sanction his departure if their asking price is met.
Aston Villa are also planning a club-record bid for his services, but United are said to have a clear advantage in the transfer pursuit.
