Manchester United are reportedly aiming to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong before June 30.
The Netherlands international is regarded as United's top transfer target, and it appears they are on the verge of signing him.
Barcelona were initially holding out for £73m, according to The Times, but their valuation has now been lowered to £69m.
United's previous bid was only £56m, but they are prepared to raise their offer such that they can finalise his transfer this week.
The club's hierarchy are optimistic of sealing an agreement before June 30, which is the final day of the financial year for Spanish clubs.
If an agreement is reached, personal terms could be a formality with De Jong having already been convinced to join the Red Devils.
He was initially reluctant to do so, but was persuaded by manager Erik ten Hag, who highlighted their success together at Ajax.
Aside from De Jong, United are awaiting the transfer decision of Christian Eriksen, whose Brentford contract expires on June 30.
