However, that is unlikely to be the case, according to The Telegraph. Chelsea are expected to sign the central defender this weekend.
Barcelona recently activated another economic lever, but they are not in a position to make a huge outlay on the France international.
Chelsea have agreed to pay a vast part of the fee up front. Barcelona can't afford to do the same. Hence, the Blues are set to win the race.
The transfer is also suitable for Sevilla, who don't want to strengthen the Blaugrana, who are their main rivals for a top-four league finish.
