Manchester United are reportedly keeping tabs on midfielder Declan Rice with a view to a summer approach.
The Red Devils were previously linked with Rice when manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge of the club.
Their interest has cooled over the past year, but The Guardian report that they are now monitoring his situation.
It is claimed that they are very much in the running for him and have laid the groundwork ahead of a summer move.
United currently have a world-class defensive midfielder in Casemiro, but the Brazilian is already 30 years of age.
He only joined the club from Madrid in the summer, but United may want to find a suitable successor for him soon.
Rice could be the ideal candidate for the job. Initially, the duo could also play together with Rice in the advanced role.
The 24-year-old has shown from his time at the Hammers that he has the ability to provide key passes in the final third.
